EXECUTIVE TEAM 2025/26
Meet the team and learn why they chose to join Women in Engineering (WiE) at UBC!

Anoop Randhawa
PRESIDENT
YEAR 5 | CIVIL ENGINEERING
My interest in Women in Engineering (WiE) UBC began in grade 12, when I, like many young women, questioned my capabilities to pursue a degree in engineering. That year, I learned about engineering at UBC and the career paths the field offers through the WiE UBC High School Mentorship Program. Since then, I decided to give back to the organization as a mentor, committee member, Outreach & Education Co-VP, and President.
Each year, my favourite part of WiE UBC is the opportunity to work alongside an incredible group of talented, hardworking women who are just as passionate about shaping a more diverse and inclusive future for women in engineering.

YEAR 4 | ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
As a high school student, I participated in a lot of STEM outreach events run by local universities. Meeting female engineering students, professors, and mentors helped me to see myself pursuing those same roles in the future. As an electrical engineering student, in a department with one of the lowest percentages of female students, I am very aware of the underrepresentation of women in engineering. I hope to provide the same sense of community that I have gained to other young women interested in getting involved in STEM!

YEAR 3 | BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Navigating the vast field of engineering can be daunting! I chose to join WiE to strengthen my leadership skills and contribute to fostering a welcoming community that empowers women in engineering. Particularly through the Professional Development committee, I hope to support other students in building confidence and career readiness beyond just academics. Whether it's networking, resume-building, or expanding technical skills, I want to take an active role in equipping women with the tools necessary to grow and flourish in their professional journeys :)

YEAR 4 | ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
I joined the WiE chapter at UBC because I love being part of a supportive community that grows through events and team collaboration. My time as an attendee and member helped me gain confidence as an engineering student. This was fueled by mentors and alumni I met through WiE, and I wanted to pay it forward by empowering future students by making engineering as fun, inclusive, and welcoming as it was for me.

YEAR 3 | ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
From my experience with WiE in my first year as a mentor in the high school girls mentorship program, I’ve fallen in love with WiE’s mission of creating safe spaces for women to navigate engineering and tech. Building a strong sense of community is crucial for inspiring confidence and encouraging collaboration, something I strive towards every day. I love connecting with people, listening to, and sharing stories that may not be heard. WiE creates opportunities to amplify inspirational voices and empower girls to pursue their passions.

YEAR 4 | CIVIL ENGINEERING
My journey with WiE began as a high school student through the High School Mentorship Program, where my mentor’s support and encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue engineering. That experience inspired me to join WiE at UBC to help create the same kind of empowering spaces for others. I’m passionate about helping students build meaningful connections and gain mentorship to support their personal growth and goals. Through WiE, I’ve met incredible women and contributed to a community that continuously uplifts and inspires me!

YEAR 3 | INTEGRATED ENGINEERING
I chose to join WIE to contribute to fostering a supportive and diverse environment for women in engineering at UBC. Through organizing WiSE event, I wanted to help students expand their professional networks and share valuable experiences with industry professionals. I am also motivated by the opportunity to collaborate with driven and goal-oriented women from different facilities to create events that empower women and non-binary individuals within the UBC community!

CO VP COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
YEAR 2 | CHEMICAL & BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
I chose to join WiE because I wanted to play a more active role in strengthening the female community within the Faculty of Applied Science. I recognize that as a woman in engineering, we are underrepresented, so it means a lot for me to be able to create a space where we can feel empowered and seen. By helping lead initiatives and plan social events, I hope to build genuine connections with others, while encouraging women to be themselves!

CO VP COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
YEAR 3 | CHEMICAL & BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
I joined WiE because I wanted to be part of a community where women in engineering can truly feel seen and encouraged. Engineering can feel pretty isolating so WiE felt like a space where I could not only connect with others who understand that but also help create that sense of belonging for someone else. Being surrounded by people who understand the challenges and are committed to making things better is what makes WiE so special to me!!
